I would request you to post a screenshot of the processes in order to guide you to the genuine processes which should run. How to include a screenshot in your post. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. How do you know that 60 to 70 background processes are too many?

How many background processes should there be, in your opinion? I currently have 72 background processes running, and my 8-year old computer runs like Usain Bolt. It hasn’t crashed since back in the day when it ran Windows 7. And that crash was my own fault, anyway. I couldn’t agree with you more.

No wonder Windows 10 lags and lags and lags. I just opened it, and I have a total of processes running simultaneously while opening. In opening Edge, it has shows four separate processes just to keep the bloody browser open. Looks like I’ll be checking out if I can ditch that immediately for Firefox.

I have turned off every single non-utility start up application, and I believe I could still go brew coffee and come back before this thing is totally done running start up stuff so I can actually start using it for something productive.

Frankly, my computer, as a whole, responded faster back when I was waiting for a dial up connection. I hate not having relatively any say over the updates or how controlling the entire program is. I hate that so many applications are entwined together and bundled together that I will never use and I cannot disable or get rid of without buggaring up the whole thing.

Of any operating system, Windows 10 is, I think, the most “Big Brother” of them all. The sad thing is that no matter how much users give feedback to Microsoft, I see no evidence that they ever take the feedback they get into consideration and act upon it for the benefit of the average consumer. They change very little from upgrade to upgrade except to increase how intrusive and parasitic it becomes. To think that my laptop just got formatted recently and the programs installed are as many as 5 totally needed by me programs that don’t run together at the same time.

These particular unnecessary processes has to be disabled by default and should only run when called to! My 16gB RAM is falling apart thanks to these processes such as superfetch, desktop window manager, antimalware service executable, etc. All which might be useful in many ways but runs with higher priority than what I am currently doing.

Don’t be fooled by some low numbers on the attached image for this a minor proof of what we were saying somehow the high numbers evade me when taking snips. And please don’t blame viruses or whatever for this performance drop cause my pc is as clean as pure H2O! I mean like what I said before, I formatted just recently and added that my pc is still young and is built for gaming. You know the Microsoft Feedback thing?

I feel as if it isn’t useful as to getting our complaints to MS. And really? Why am I using English as my default language? Jokes don’t work on people who constantly lose trust in those who can’t even give their word about getting things fixed. Yeah, you can’t delete them. They need to know what you are doing.

My hard drive is whirring constantly, even when idle. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Cortana is crap, I dont want the cloud and I cant turn off Cortana or the other background things that run when I need my CPU for other things besides Store background, windows game background and on and on. Windows 10 needs to be streamlined so that it’s not a resource hog. So do it. FIX IT! And what makes you sure that the number of processes contributes to your laptop’s crashing?

To understand why your computer crashes, here are a few things to consider: Is all your hardware and installed software compatible with Windows 10? Do you receive any error messages?

Post them here verbatim, please. There are many more things to think about, but the above two are a good start. In reply to A. User’s post on February 26, I can understand if Im using these items, but they’re randomly running. Situationally, as in when you are using them, I can see them running. But not constantly or even randomly. There is too much going on in the background.

Even IPv6 doesnt need to run if you arent using the web. Do you get it now? In reply to shanejwilliams’s post on March 3, In reply to khaat’s post on May 13, In reply to Daishinkan’s post on October 6, I agree, there are wayyyy too many processes running in W Right now I have 82 processes running. In W7 only in the 30s. I uninstalled all the apps, disabled Defender, killed some processes. Disabled all the spyware. Killed auto update in GPedit. I still have this many processes. It’s ridiculous.

The above image in Daishinkan’s comment is how my task manager looks for processes running in the background. Someone please help! I don’t know what most of these are and wonder if I can delete them. Also the ones I do know and don’t use, I shut them down and they just start right back up. Win 10? Going back to 7.
